The Screen Education Fund supports projects that help people in Scotland access, understand and create film and screen content. The development of Scotland’s future screen sector begins with education. The Screen Education Fund supports projects that help people in Scotland access, understand and create film and screen content. Screen education can take place in a variety of places, including schools, communities, non-formal and informal learning settings. It supports people of all ages to develop skills, knowledge and confidence in film and screen making. . The fund focuses on projects that: • Deliver high quality film and screen education • Support the development and growth of film and screen education in Scotland • Support professional learning for teachers and educators • Strengthen the long-term sustainability of film and screen education provision • Promote the value and benefit of film and screen education Projects must have a clear focus. The fund supports projects with film and screen learning as the primary purpose. As the Screen Education Fund supports the development of film and screen education capacity across Scotland, applications from individuals and organisations in areas of Scotland where there is less film and screen education provision may be given priority. Individuals, organisations and incorporated groups who are based in Scotland and have appropriate demonstrable experience of delivering screen education activity in Scotland. • Organisations currently in receipt of funding from Creative Scotland and/or Screen Scotland, including Multi-Year Funded Organisations (MYFOs) can apply, but will be required to demonstrate why the proposed activity is separate to their existing funding agreement, and how it will enhance the current and future plans. • A single lead applicant must submit applications. Partners can be included and should be clearly identified and where relevant, letters of support or commitment should be provided, along with CVs of those involved in delivery of the proposed activity. Who cannot apply? • Applicants who do not work with the film and screen education sector, or do not have appropriate, demonstrable experience in delivering film and screen education activity • Applicants based outside of Scotland • Applicants seeking support for activity taking place outside of Scotland • Applicants whose proposed activity is not clearly defined film and screen education activity Supported activity and costs What activity can this fund support? • Film and Screen education activity for children, young people or adults in Scotland • Professional development for teachers or educators • Delivery by experienced practitioners with a demonstrable track record of successful delivery of film and screen education • Project planning, delivery and evaluation costs • Access and inclusion costs. What activity does this fund not support? • Activity taking place outside of Scotland • Filmmaking equipment purchase or hire • Film licensing • Guest speakers without a clear and valid educational rationale • Activity where the primary purpose is not clearly learning • Promotional merchandise How much can I apply for? You can apply for between £1,000 and £30,000 per project. Projects can last for up to 12 months. Budgets should be reasonable and proportionate and reflect fair and appropriate costs. Fund timeline When can I apply? There are no deadlines for this fund, meaning you can apply at any time throughout the year, subject to available budget allocations. Please check our website to ensure you are using the most up-to-date version of the funding guidance. You can apply up to 8 weeks before your activity is scheduled to begin. If you apply with less than 8 weeks before your activity begins, your application will be deemed ineligible. How long will it take to get a decision? Decisions will take up to 8 weeks from the date we receive your application form and consider it complete. Applications are assessed as they are received. We recommend applying as early as possible to allow time for assessment, funding decisions to be reached and any conditions to be met before your project is planned to begin. We do not fund projects that have already started. How to apply Applications to the Screen Education Fund should be made through the Application Form available on Screen Scotland’s website and submitted by email to [email protected]. Before applying, all applicants must ensure they have read this fund guidance and the application form in full. Please ensure you have read the information on who can and cannot apply to this fund and ensure you and your project are eligible before starting an application. Assessment Criteria What criteria will we assess applications against? • Projects respond to a clear need and/or opportunity and explain why this is necessary • Projects have clear and realistic aims, SMART objectives and demonstrable outcomes • Projects target specific people with clear routes for how participants will be recruited • Projects have clear delivery and management plans • Projects have comprehensive evaluation plans, including use of SMART objectives • Projects demonstrate a commitment to Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion, Fair Work and Environmental Sustainability The strongest applications will demonstrate a clear understanding of film and screen education, appropriate scale and budgeting, and a realistic plan for delivery. Delivery staff and professional practice Projects must involve qualified and/or experienced film and screen education practitioners appropriate to the activity being delivered. Your application should: • Provide CVs of delivery staff • Demonstrate relevant skills and experience in film and screen education. Screen Scotland is committed to ensuring that artists and creative professionals are paid fairly and appropriately for their time and expertise. Applicants should refer to Creative Scotland’s Rates of Pay Guidance when setting fees and budgets. Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion and Access Projects should remove barriers and create inclusive opportunities. Your application should explain: • Who may face barriers to participation • How you will address these barriers • What practical steps you will take to improve access • How you will create a welcoming and inclusive environment. Applicants should also provide an Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, Equal Opportunities Policy, or an equivalent statement appropriate to the scale of the applicant and project. More information: Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion | Creative Scotland Environmental Sustainability Projects should take a practical and proportionate approach to environmental sustainability. This may include: • Reducing waste and avoiding unnecessary materials • Minimising travel and using public transport where possible • Using local suppliers and resources and where this is not possible, suppliers and resources with a recognized environmental sustainability record • Considering environmental impact in project planning and delivery. Where relevant, projects should also support participant awareness of sustainability in screen practice. This includes: • Paying the Real Living Wage to directly employed staff as a minimum • Paying freelancers and practitioners at appropriate industry rates • Recruiting fairly and appropriately • Using fair and transparent contracts • Supporting wellbeing and professional development • Providing appropriate channels for communication and feedback. You should ensure your approach reflects current legislation and good practice. If your project involves children, young people or vulnerable adults, you must have robust safeguarding measures in place.
